Have you looked into Project Lifesaver for the girls? I know your county has the program. Each girl would wear a "bracelet" either on their wrist, or ankle, I prefer ankle. They wear the device 24/7, it can get wet and it only comes off if the strap is cut off. The device gives off an inaudible radio signal. Should one of the girls goes missing you call 911 and tell them your child participates in Project Lifesaver. Erie County will send out a trained PLS tracker and they find the missing person. I have a bracelet/device I can donate to you should you decide to get the girls enrolled in the program. You guys handle things wonderfully, but like Jo above, I felt some anxiety reading it so I can only imagine what some of YOUR days look like! ;) I hope you guys have family/friends close by to help out when/if you need some "mommy and daddy recharge time!" I'd help if I lived closer (one way I'd easily lose a few more lbs for SURE, LOL)
I had to laugh when you mentioned that God obviously knew what He was doing so that Sophia is NOT your first child. Hopefully, when she gets the sleep apnea treated and maybe too, as she gets older, she will settle down a bit but as you said, maybe too she is just a spirited child and that is part of her personality.
Hope you are enjoying what remains of summer! By "tv stand" I just meant the furniture that holds the DVR/DVD player and sits on the floor under the TV....our TV is mounted on the wall and was before Sofia ever came home HAHA! Good thing! Dressers and cupboards in the playroom are also bolted to the walls :) Sofia's IFSP goal for feeding is actually to eat toddler sized foods safely without choking....currently we cut everything very small for her....depending on the food, it's usually at least quarters and I've never given any of them marshmallows so we're good there LOL! I read a story once about a little girl who was crying and found a goldfish in her carseat while crying and put it in her mouth and aspirated it and is a medically fragile child now....those stories stick with me too and I'm a nervous wreck most days LOL. Sadly, I know families who've been just as careful and have had accidents so I just keep praying for a blanket of safety from the Lord! I joke that our house is like Alcatraz with all the locks and layers of security...but one of my biggest fears remains one of them getting away from me and getting lost! I've heard so many stories of that happening to kids with special needs :( I need to look into some ideas/programs that are avail. in case one of them ever does get away. Thanks for the words and the prayers!!!! And, I know it has to be draining for you, as her primary care giver and Mama. Keeping her and the other girls safe is so huge and you must be watching her every second that she's awake, huh? Just a couple of thoughts/ideas/suggestions... when you mentioned the TV being on a stand, I cringed. After reading/seeing how you attached the swing to your ceiling, in your last post, I KNOW that you & Shawn are truly safety-aware, so I am thinking that you already have the TV anchored to the wall. But, it immediately popped into mind, so I had to mention it. Also doing that with tall dresser drawers, as your little one may very well figure out how to pull out the bottom drawer and start climbing. (I saw way too many accidents as a Pediatric RN and they stayed with me!)
As for the choking: YIKES! So scary! Three foods that I always mention are grapes, hot dogs and miniature marshmallows. The first two are obvious, cut into 1/4's. The marshmallows are a less known food issue/danger though. They are sometimes referred to as the "quiet candy", a snack that can be given during a Church Service or other times when a Little needs to sit still. Seems like a treat that wouldn't be noisy or messy. But, a marshmallow simply cannot be dislodged with the Heimlich Maneuver. Sadly, I took care of a 3 year old girl who choked on one. Even though the ambulance arrived at the day care quickly, the EMT's were not even able to suction it out of her airway. She passed away several days later.
I want to say that I know that I am sharing some really difficult things, but awareness can save a life. And, though You are experienced, both as a Mama of 3 AND a Teacher, someone else may come and read this and learn something new. Little children are amazingly fast and can get themselves into dangerous situations, so some things are pretty obvious. It's the hidden dangers and things you would never even think about, that need to be shared. I hope you don't see this as annoying! You and Shawn are doing an incredible job with parenting your three Treasures. I always look forward to reading your posts! Saying Prayers for your Sofia and her apnea and the upcoming Cardiology appt.!
Hugs to All ~ JoJo's Cornerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07598582453797668103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-691280826512919640.post-5002670418643951452013-08-10T14:47:26.883-04:002013-08-10T14:47:26.883-04:00I love seeing pictures of Sofia and Mila together ...I love seeing pictures of Sofia and Mila together -- Mila always looks sweetly thoughtful and introspective, while Sofia absolutely radiates sunshine. It's going to be amazing for these girls, so close in age but so different in personality, to grow up together.
