Glasses for Mila Part 2

Well we've been trying out some different frames AT HOME. Definitely a lot less stressful than in the office! I was so hopeful about the Specs 4 Us brand glasses as they are made specifically for kids with Down Syndrome and their unique facial features. The people at Specs 4 Us were so very helpful! They sent out 5 different frames for us to try at home. Unfortunately Mila was not happy about them and didn't keep them on  longer than a few seconds. I think the nose pads were really bothering her. Even on the smallest frames they were sliding into the corners of her eyes when she moved.

Darling, but too big!

She looks thrilled, right?

We had tried the Miraflex ones in the office and those flew of faster than I could blink! A couple of my DS mama friends shared THIS WEBSITE with me and I ended up ordering THIS PAIR to try with Mila. They came in the mail today (minus the lenses since I wanted to try them on her first to decide) and what do you know, she left them on for FORTY MINUTES without touching them!! I think we have a winner!! I just hope that she continues to like them once we get the lenses put in them. The lenses will be touching her long eyelashes so hopefully that won't bother her too much! I was so happy that she seemed to actually LIKE these glasses. They are feather light and must have been a lot more comfortable for her than the others we tried. I even put them on her 3 different times today and every time she left them on without bothering them!

Clapping for glasses!

I can't wait to see her reaction with the lenses when she realizes she can see better!

  3. PINK is definitely her happy color! Miss Mila looks adorable in her new specs!! It may still take some time for her to get used them with lenses even though her vision will be better, because it will be different. Praying that she will adjust super quick and keep on "clapping for glasses"....too cute!!!! ((((HUGS))))!

  5. Four of my children have needed glasses from six weeks of age, and we have always used those Como Baby frames. Here's what they don't tell you on the website - you can run over them with a VAN and they don't break. However, some particularly busy little ones will learn how to pop the lenses out very quickly. So you will learn how to pop them back in just as fast :-)

    1. Sweet!! This is good to know! LOL, hopefully I'll figure out how to pop those lenses right back in. Sheesh for the total price we paid for her glasses, lenses and all, they should be BULLET PROOF HAHAHHA!

  7. I'm not sure if Mila uses SimplyThick but I wanted to share this with you incase you knew of someone with an infant who does use it or for you to share it with your SLP.

    1. Thanks! When Mila was first home we tried it out but it didn't agree with her. There are warnings all over their website not to use with preemies, and warnings also on the box....most hospital speech therapists just stay away from it all together now just to be safe, from my understanding (with all the warnings). She only needs VERY SLIGHTLY thickened liquids, so we mix a bit of fruit baby food in with some water to get the consistency we need, she can drink goat's milk and almond milk without it being thickened :) Thanks for looking our for us!
