Zoya Made a New Friend Today

Much to my dismay, Zoya has already made a friend that I don't approve of.....BARNEY! Ahhhh! We took the DVD player over on our visit today and put in a Barney DVD...she was amazed! She loved all the singing and dancing and even learned to clap her hands to the music! She would dance back and forth and then just stop and stare in amazement! She kept getting really close to the DVD player and even kissing it! haha.  When we were given her medical information one thing that was said was translated as: "Zoya has far vision." We don't know if that means she is near sighted, or far sighted...I'm thinking probably near sighted and it just came out wrong in the translation? She seemed to like getting VERY close to the screen, which reminds me of another certain little boy I know who shall remain nameless...all I will say is he loves McDonalds...and we miss him very much...hehe :) Either way we will have her vision checked when we get home! She loves to feel the vibration of things that make sounds...even the DVD player. She kept putting her hands and face right on the DVD player.

I was singing to her...she absolutely loves music!

We were really excited that she didn't seem tired at all today, and then while watching Barney, in like 2 seconds flat, she went from this:
to this......
in 2 seconds flat!

We knew we'd be busted since we were still inside so I tried to wake her up by calling her name...useless I tell ya! Then the "oppsite of favorite" caretaker came in and started SHOUTING her name and she woke up she kept waking up then falling asleep....kinda reminded me of being in college, really really tired, and not being able to keep your eyes open....they would open then her head would go down and eyes shut.  Shawn and I couldn't help but laugh out loud while this lady was SCREAMING at Zoya and Zoya's head kept bobbing up and down...eyes wide open, then shut....repeat!  The lady didn't like that we were laughing and just got louder and louder. The care taker was NOT happy so she went over to the sink, got some cold water and slapped it onto Zoya's face a couple times.  I didn't know if I should laugh or cry.  I felt like slapping the lady but I refrained from doing that for obvious reasons.  Seriously, whenever she falls asleep (although we have been trying not to let her but it doesn't seem to make a difference...she will sleep sitting up, upside down, laying down...whatever position she is in)...anyways, when she falls asleep I feel like Shawn and I are the two guys from "My Cousin Bernie" trying to make her "look alive" behind the steering wheel! LOL.  We are realizing that there are a few care takers who let her sleep when she is tired and a few who will do ANYTHING to keep her awake.

Tomorrow at 9am our time is our 2nd (and hopefully final) court date.  We are nervous and anxious to have this court date and hoping that God will give us the words we need when we are being questioned by the judge and give the judge a soft spot in his heart for this adoption.  We need prayers for our facilitator, Marina, as well, as this is a new situation for her and we know she has done everything she can to help this court date be our final one.  We hope and pray that tomorrow is the day that Zoya will be ours, not only in our eyes and God's eyes, but in the eyes of the court as well.  Thank you for your kind words and continued prayers.

  1. After reading your latest blog, though I would cut and paste some words of encouragement.

    Praise You in This Storm
words by Mark Hall/music by Mark Hall and Bernie Herms

I was sure by now,God, that You would have reached down
    and wiped our tears away,
stepped in and saved the day.
But once again, I say amen
    and it's still raining
    as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain,
    "I'm with you"
    and as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise
the God who gives and takes away.

    Chorus:
And I'll praise you in this storm
and I will lift my hands
for You are who You are
    no matter where I am
    and every tear I've cried
    You hold in your hand
    You never left my side
and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry to You
    and raised me up again
my strength is almost gone how can I carry on
    if I can't find You
    and as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
    "I'm with you"
    and as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise
the God who gives and takes away

    Chorus

I lift my eyes onto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth
I lift my eyes onto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth

    Chorus

    Ryan

  2. Hi Sarah,Shawn, and precious Zoya, I read this post and I can't help but laugh out loud at Zoya's love for Barney/all music, the closeness of watching the screen, her spaghetti legs, sleeping in all positions, her infectious smile and so many other similarities (EXCEPT the sleeping part)that remind me of our Seth. I just want Shawn to know that I will introduce her to the Wiggles!!! Maybe she'll like Anthony like me:) I can't wait to get the two of them together to play! Maybe Zoya will influence him to sleep:)Wishful thinking on my part. We will continue to pray for tomorrows developments with court. At church last night we studied Psalm 93.God reigns even in the midst of the flood waters. He is sure using you as witnesses for Him.Think of all the lives you have touched from the day of your commitment to Zoya June15th(my birthday too)to this day right here and now!Hang in there! God has not forgotten you and neither have we. Thinking of you and wishing you a Blessed Easter. Love, hugs and kisses Kathy,Guy and the wild bunch xoxoxo

  6. Maybe Zoya's practicing sleeping for the airplane ride home. Praying that Good Friday will be especially good for you this year and that she'll officially be yours then. That would be so fitting since Good Friday was when God paid the ultimate 'adoption fee' that sealed our adoption. "For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. in love He predestined us to be adopted as HIs sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will." --Ephesians 1:4,5 Praying and waiting with you to hear your good news.

  8. You make me laugh and cry with your postings. Go Barney Go! Amazing Zoya can even sleep in the eye of the storm! Praying the judge will receive God's directions as he sits on your case on Friday. May Marnia have the expertise to let this judge see the light to award this child a loving and caring family.
We are praying, May God's love wrap around you and comfort you through these difficult times. Love to you all, Debbie N.

  9. Praying and PRAYING. That situation with the caregiver just exemplifies how MUCH you need to get that girl home. Athough I understand why they need her to sleep on schedule, I'm SO glad she's got her mommy and daddy there.

  10. so sweet I love the picture of the three of you the one that you have your legs over Shawn's and Zoya on your lap watching Barney. it is just so sweet such a sweet loving family.
that would make me so mad the lady splashing water in her face like that.you guys seem to take it all in stride and are doing so well with it. I may have splashed water back in the ladys face lol but then they would have kicked you out so thats no good. we pray that your day tomorrow is a great one and that things go well with the judge.
